Jean Auel has an international following so devout that a previous post about her on Oregon Movies, A to Z was rewarded with hundreds and hundreds of hits.
Jean Auel’s next book, The Land Of Painted Caves, is the last installment in her Earth’s Children series. It will come out in March 2011.
As Jeff Baker notes in the Oregonian, Jean Auel is a home grown artist.
1. researched her first book at the Multnomah County library
2. worked a day job at Tektronix
3. met her agent at Willamette Writers Conference
Proponents of the theory that Oregonians are secretly French can point to Auel, who, without changing her Oregon address, chose to live her imaginative life in the caves of pre-historic France. Millions of readers the world over joined her there, as did John Sayles, Michael Chapmen and Darryl Hannah, who brought one novel in the series to the big screen in Clan of the Cave Bear.
Maybe we will see that happen again for The Land Of Painted Caves. Congratulations, Jean!

I’m so excited to read book 6! I, like millions of others have read the 1st 5 books over and over. I saw in one web site that there would be a book 7 also. Now I read that the 6th book is the end of the series. I have to admit, I’m sad about that. The series could go on for ever as far as I’m concerned. Ayla’s decendent in 2012 AD??? If any more movies are made of this series..I sure hope the quality of it all is a 1,000 x’s better than the 1st one made. That was terrible! Love your books Jean Auel.. truly wish you could write many more.

I can’t wait for the next book to come out! I was just introduced to this series last year and I really feel like I cheated by being able to read the first five straight through, and i know that I am doing the older fans, who have waited years between each installment, an injustice with my impatience. I am completely in love with all your characters, settings, and the brilliant interactions between them. Please, please consider giving us another installment!

I have waited literally years and years for this book to come out, I am so excited! I dont even remember how I first came to read the first book, but over the years I have read the series at least 5 times. I am going to have to re-read again before this one. Jean, Thank you so much for finishing, its a dream come true to finally know the rest of the story! Your writing truly transforms a person to believe they are actually experiencing what the characters are. Bravo!

So excited to hear about book 6 finally being released! Will we learn about Broud? Did he stay leader after Ayla left. What about her son Durc, is he now leader? Do they ever meet again? Will the clan and others live together in harmony or will the others kill off the clan? What about Ayla and Jondular, will their union stand the pressure of her being a healer? Her daughter how will she grow up?
So many questions, only Jean Auel has these answers and more…Can’t wait until March 2011!

I love the Earth Children series. Happened on the Land of Painted Caves and scooped it right up. Twenty-six years ia a long time to wait for the next book. But boy was it worth the wait.(glad I didn’t die in the meantim) I’m 73. Have only about 50 more pages to finish, but I don’t want it to end. Enjoy, everyone.

I hope “Land of the Painted Caves” is not the last! This has been my favorite series! I would anxiously wait for each of the last 3 to come out after reading the first 3.
My mother got me started. And I got my daughter started. So, we’ve got 3 generations of fans here! Probably will have a 4th generation very soon. My grand-daughter reads a lot. So, it’s when her mom says she’s ready.
Thanks for a fantastic series!
