In 1969, a renegade company of free lance Portland theater artists opened the Storefront Theater on North Russell Street. Portland avant garde theater was born.
Storefront Theater was active until the early 90’s. Henk Pander, David Chelsea and Wendy Westerwelle are some of the Storefront artists who survived the AIDS epidemic which wiped out the leadership core of the group.
