Twist my arm! Here’s the rare case of a director who had to be dragged West.
After Broadway director Joshua Logan was tapped to finish (uncredited) ailing John Ford’s work in the 1955 production of Mr. Roberts, he went on to make Picnic (1955), Bus Stop (1956), Sayonara (1957), and South Pacific (1958), etc.
Paint Your Wagon was his last film.
