Walt Disney commissioned Portland jazz musician George Bruns to adapt Tchaikovsky’s score for his 1959 animated version of Sleeping Beauty. Member of the cast of that production pictured above.
Bruns received an Oscar nomination for that score, the first of four he would receive throughout his long Disney career.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote the ballet score for The Sleeping Beauty in 1889. It was performed for the Czar at the Imperial Theater the following year. Here’s the original cast.
