Impossible to underestimate the contributions made by the Western!
John Huston chose second generation movie cowboy Bob Steele (born Robert Adrian Bradbury, in Portland) to play gangster Lash Canino in the deliciously incomprehensible The Big Sleep.
Steele had previously won praise for his performace as the sadistic Curley in Of Mice and Men (1939).
