In 1932, Disney asked Vance DeBar “Pinto” Colvig to provide the voice for a new character, Goofy.
Born in Jacksonville, Oregon, Colvig came to cartooning as Mel Blanc later would – through musical clowning. His first job was playing the clarinet with crossed eyes at the Lewis & Clark Exposition in Portland, in 1905.
